After more than a year of putting on a brave face with the media, Sandra Bullock is finally opening up about the scandal that shook her to her core. In an interview with the Associated Press, the 47 –year-old actress opened up about the pain caused by philandering ex-husband and mega-douche Jessie James.
Bullock told Jake Coyle, “I was perfectly content to be permanently broken” following revelations that James had stepped out on their 5 year marriage with numerous women.
News of James’ betrayal broke just days after Bullock won the Oscar for best actress for her work in 2009’s “The Blind Side”. During the award ceremony, Bullock tearfully thanked her then husband, completely unaware that stripper and tattooed model Michelle “Bombshell” McGee was about to break her story to the media.
After the news broke, Bullock hid out with her newly adopted baby, Louis Bardo, and admitted that the humiliation she experience made her want to quit acting.
Bullock credits Stephen Daldry, the director of her new film Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close with getting her back to work. “I honestly didn’t think I was in a place where I wanted to work or wanted to step out of where I was. … I wasn’t prepared. But the opportunity was louder than my head.”
Extreamly Loud & Incredibly Close is about a boy who loses his father (Tom Hanks) on September 11th. Bullock says she drew on the pain she experienced during her separation to help her get into the mindset of a woman who lost her husband in a senseless act, “Painfully, you learn quickly in life that sometimes there are no answers and you learn to make peace with that, which is a lifelong struggle.”
The film opens nationally on Jan 20th, but is already showing in select theatres.
